From FIT to FACC:  Mapping Your Path

Join us on September 9th at 6:00 p.m. Eastern with special guest speakers Nosheen Reza, MD, FACC and Poonam Velagapudi, MD, FACC as they cover the needed steps and best practices to pursuing your FACC designation with the American College of Cardiology.

Registration is complimentary for FITs and Early Career Physicians.

Speakers

Dr. Nosheen Reza is a cardiologist and translational researcher at the University of Pennsylvania focusing on advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology and cardiovascular genetics and phenomics.

She obtained her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 2012 and completed her internal medicine residency training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 2015. She then completed her Cardiovascular Disease fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2018 and served as 2017-2018 Chief Fellow. At Penn, Dr. Reza pursued additional scholarship in genomic medicine as an NIH T32-funded postdoctoral fellow and in healthcare quality as a Penn Benjamin & Mary Siddons Measey Fellow in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. She completed her final year of clinical training at Penn in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology and joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in July 2020.

Dr. Reza is an active leader in the American College of Cardiology at the local and national levels and served as 2020-2021 Chair of the ACC Fellows in Training Section. She is now the Immediate Past Chair of the FIT Section; a member of the Early Career Section Leadership Council, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and ACC Leadership Academy; and a social media consultant for JACC: Case Reports, JACC: CardioOncology, and JACC: Heart Failure.

In her ACC roles, she has prioritized wide engagement of FITs in ACC activities and opportunities and has helped launched novel initiatives including the Case Report Series in collaboration with the CardioNerds podcast, the ACC FIT Chapter Representative program, the Virtual Mock Interview program, and the ACC Chief Fellows Network.

Dr. Poonam Velagapudi is a Structural Interventional Cardiologist, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Program Director for Cardiovascular Medicine fellowship at the University of Nebraska. Her clinical interests include high risk PCI, mechanical circulatory support in shock, radial and large bore access, percutaneous transcatheter valve procedures including TAVR, TMVR, and MitraClip. She also has a strong interest in education, advocacy and increasing/promoting participation of women in clinical trials. She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), Chair of the ACC Early Career Section, Past Chair of the ACC Fellows in Training Section, and Co-Chair of the SCAI Educational Committee. She is a strong proponent of using social media for fostering education in cardiology and serves as a social media editor for ‘JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions’ journal and is an Early Career Correspondent for ACC ACCEL Audio. She is also an Associate Editor for the ‘European Heart Journal (EHJ)- Case Reports’ journal.
