2020 ACC-Mass Abstract Competition

Timeline

September 1st: Abstract Submission Open - click here to submit.

September 25th: Abstracts Due (acceptance notification to follow)

September 26th – October 10th: Judging

October 10th: Top 5 Competition Participants Announced

October 17th: Top five Fellow in Training abstracts to be presented at the ACC-Mass Virtual Meeting in the Oral Competition.   FITs will be given individual 10-min time slots to present abstract via Zoom to the judges and attendees.

Eligibility

All current Massachusetts fellows in a cardiology training program are invited to participate.
Eligible submission: Clinical Research or a Case Report.
Only ONE abstract may be submitted per person.

All current Massachusetts medical residents in a training program are invited to participate.
Eligible submission: Case Report only.
* Residents may NOT submit/present research (nor on behalf of a secondary author).
* Residents must identify themselves as residents and not fellows.
Only ONE abstract may be submitted per person.

You may present recent data or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting. Abstracts presented at the ACC-Mass meeting may be submitted to ACC.21 for consideration. An ACC-Mass meeting abstract presentation is not disqualified from being submitted to ACC.21.

Submission Criteria

  1. Abstract Title: The title should be brief (limited to 15 words) and should be succinct and descriptive.
  2. Abstract Body: Maximum of 500 words. Maximum one image (e.g. EKG or graph or table, etc.).
    JPEG format only, maximum file size 500 kb, maximum pixel size 600 x 800. Your one image does not count towards word count. For higher quality output we recommend your images be set at 300 dpi and crop out any unnecessary surrounding white space.
  3. Abstract Layout:
    Clinical research abstracts must use the following layout:
    *Background
    *Objective
    *Methods
    *Results (if relevant)
    *Conclusion
    Case report abstracts must use the following layout:
    *Introduction/Objective
    *Case Presentation
    *Discussion
    *Conclusion
    Here is a good reference for putting together a case report.
  4. Abstract PowerPoint a) Create a PowerPoint deck – upload in submission form with a Dropbox or shareable file link to the folder containing your PPT and Poster PDF.
    Clinical Research – 6-slide presentation:
    The first slide should be your title slide and listing of authors.
    The second slide should be “Background.”
    The third slide should be “Objective.”
    The fourth slide should be “Methods.”
    The fifth slide should be “Results.”
    The sixth slide should be “Conclusion.”
    Case Report – 5-slide presentation:
    The first slide should be your title slide and listing of authors.
    The second slide should be “Introduction/Objective.”
    The third slide should be “Case Presentation.”
    The fourth slide should be “Discussion.”
    The fifth slide should be “Conclusion.”
  5. Upload your poster as a pdf.

Reminders:

  1. Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment by the submitting author to participate in the Virtual Meeting on October 17th if his/her poster is accepted.
  2. The deadline for submission is September 20.
  3. The top five abstracts will be assigned a time to present individually via Zoom on Saturday, October 17 in 10-minute individual appointment times.
